YEMEN

Welcome, welcome that ennobles
the people of the Kalashnikov and the jambiya,
the people of the German and British rifles;

Welcome that fills the capital
and every tranquil place
and irrigates the green land;

Welcome, like the welcome of the rain
that fills Yemen's villages and towns,
O tribe, you who stab in the vein.

O Uncle Salih, welcome
as many times as the morning breezes blow
and the cool wind stires.
